Highlights of 2018
Friday 14th December saw our annual Christmas jumper meeting, with a variety of elves, snowmen and other festive characters in attendance. It was also a chance to reflect on what has been a momentous year for the group, with our outgoing chair Matt Hill summarising some of the highlights including:
• Move to a larger venue at the Milk Churn to accommodate our growing numbers. This year we increased from 31 to 36 members, with some new specialisms represented including admin support (Leanne) and carpentry (Haden)
• An impressive 859 referrals passed between members over the year, with a special award to Colin Powney who was the top referrer with 32
• A fabulous £1,251,354.49 of business generated by members for members over 2018. This works out to around £34,760 for each member on average!
2018 has not been without its difficult times. We reflected on the sad and untimely loss of Tim Page earlier this year and have been pleased to welcome James from Page Electrical to continue to represent the business.
Matt finished by thanking all of the committee and other members for their hard work behind the scenes, from organising training courses, speakers and social events to keeping the website and records up to date.
We look forward to seeing Stuart Harris from Attention Space move into the Chair role in 2019. A huge thanks to Matt Hill from Systema for doing a great job chairing our meetings over the past year.
Christmas Party Night
On 8th December, our members and their guests enjoyed a night of festive celebrations at Bowood, with delicious food and wine, dancing and, of course, great company!
Working as a small business owner or sole trader can be lonely, but not if you’re part of BGG! Our members enjoy regular social events throughout the year, in addition to our Friday networking breakfasts, so there is no need to miss out on the social side of work.
A very Merry Christmas to our members, their families and team members.
In December 2017, we were pleased to welcome representatives from Wiltshire Air Ambulance to our breakfast meeting where we presented them with a cheque for £500 towards their Airbase Appeal. We were therefore delighted to learn that the new airbase has been officially opened in December 2018 by HRH Duchess of Cornwall. Wiltshire Air Ambulance commented via our twitter feed “Thank you so much for your support and for helping us be where we are today!”
This year we are pleased to have chosen Wiltshire Mind to receive our Christmas donation of £500. As a committee, we have discussed the importance of mental health issues. We look forward to welcoming representatives of Wiltshire Mind to our meeting on 25th January 2019 to learn more about their work, as well as presenting them with a cheque.

What can you learn in 8 minutes?
Every week members take it in turns to share their expertise in an 8-minute presentation. Recently, members have used a variety of practical tasks to showcase their skills and teach us something new!
Tom from Renew Flooring showed us how to join two pieces of carpet. After a quick demonstration, he divided us into four teams and challenged us to do the same! Tom made it look easy, but our members'
results were of variable quality - we are not sure Tom will be hiring any of us as an apprentice any time soon.
We also got to test out our physical skills during Matt Hill's talk on the Systema Academy, from balancing to breathing. It was surprising how hard sitting and standing can be!
Then we found out how much we didn't know about the complex world of insurance in a quiz by Karen from PSP Insurance, who even managed to integrate bouncing on space hoppers!
We have such a varied skillset at BGG! For more about our members' specialisms, see our Members Page
